“Unconditional love”? What does it truly mean? As I grow older, I have come to realize that this kind of love has never been missing from my life, it has been the foundation of my blessings and why I continue to thrive.
Over the years, especially as a woman in her late 20s… whew, I have come to realize that I have been surrounded by unconditional love, even at times when I didn’t fully understand it. We often associate family with blood ties, but let me shift that perspective a little bit for ya: unconditional love holds no strings, and family is not always defined by biology.
I was born into circumstances that were far from ideal, but God gave me a mother, not by birth, but by purpose. A mother who didn’t carry me in her womb but carries me in every thread of her being. I am the button on her clothes, a part of her, woven in love that no one can ever take that away from me.
What this has taught me is that in life, you sometimes have to die to your own flesh and fears, take risks, and give selflessly. You may not always see the finish line, but God honors those who give with an open heart. My mother, Mama Massa, has done just that and more. Her love for me is indescribable, powerful, and pure.
God sends people who become eternal imprints in your story. People who remind you that your journey is divinely written. We are each uniquely crafted, and in that design, God places people to show us that love, true love, is unconditional.

Mama Massa,
You have a daughter (Lue) who loves you endlessly:
A daughter who would fight for you without hesitation.
A daughter who will defy every odd to see you smile.
A daughter who wants nothing but the best for you.
A daughter who may fuss with you but knows you’re her earthly guardian angel.
A daughter who now watches over you, just as you and grandma once did for her.
A daughter raised by the legacy of unconditional love, you and grandma gave.
When the world feels heavy or unfamiliar, I hope you never forget the blessing you are. You have been a light to everyone God has placed in your path. I have never felt ashamed to share my darkest moments with you because you always help me stand tall again and again and allow me to be me. Thank you for always being willing to see me smile and laugh at the top of my voice.
Wherever you go, you carry a love that is unmatched, and unconditional. You have been, and will always be a blessing in my life.
I love you just as you are.
Forever your daughter,
Lue
Happy Birthday Mama Bear, may I be blessed to celebrate you always! Mwah.
